Terraced house Ostend

A dated and dimly lit terraced house was fully renovated into a modern, warm and energy-efficient gem of a home with a timeless interior.

The owners contacted Borgwal Renovaties for a complete renovation of their dated terraced house. The home suffered from a lack of light, an inefficient layout and worn materials both inside and out. Its energy performance fell below current standards, making the house an unpleasant place to live during autumn and winter.

The owners dreamed of a renovated home that radiates a sense of calm, with a modern and timeless interior and a high level of living comfort. Their main requirements were durable materials, maximum use of natural light and versatile, flexible spaces with no unused square metres.

An open layout connected the kitchen, dining room and living room into a flowing whole, with large windows and subtle decorative touches. The staircase was completely renovated and painted white, and an integrated home office, among other features, was created. The kitchen was given matte black cabinets, a wooden worktop and a central island.

On the technical side, the home was fitted with insulation, high-performance windows, a new energy-efficient heating system and renewed water pipes and electrical wiring. The living spaces received wooden floors and the wet rooms tiling. The large bathroom features a new bath, a spacious walk-in shower and a vanity unit with two basins and black taps, while a smaller bathroom under the roof was given a freestanding bath beneath a skylight.

The outdoor space was tackled as well: the neglected courtyard was transformed into a modern city garden with artificial grass, light-toned walls, plants and comfortable seating, complemented by infrastructure work on the façade, garden walls and terrace tiles.
